A
student with Learning disABILITIES is an
individual for whom traditional teaching
methods may not make sense. Many students
with average or above average intelligence
are diagnosed with Learning disABILITIES
every year. A Learning disABILITY simply
means that an individual acquires, stores
and expresses information in a specific
way.
According
to the Learning Disabilities Association
of Ontario, in order for a person with Learning
disABILITIES (LD) to be successful in life,
they require:
Specific skill instruction;
Compensatory strategies;
Accommodations; and
Self-advocacy training.
The
SC4LD addresses these needs by offering:
Teaching;
Learning Strategies;
Assistive technology; and
Self-advocacy training
to
students in grades 2 - 12 who have diagnosed
or identified Specific Learning disABILITIES.
In
order to support the family of the student
who has LD, advocacy, assessment, and workshop
services are also available.
